So I was browsing CNN and I came across an article about an Obama skit on SNL, and apparently it's caused a bit of a stir among the political community. I guess the current Obama impersonator in a sketch was responding to the criticism of the Republican party that Obama was "turning the country into something that resembles the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany." His response was that he wasn't actually doing anything.
I find it really amusing that CNN is reporting on this, and that anyone finds this sketch to be a big deal. Sketch comedy, and comedians in general always take shots at politics and presidents all the time. John Stewarts been doing it for years, but no one really thought it was a big deal. I guess however it has sparked some discussion in the political community, which again I found slightly surprising. I never really thought that SNL held much influence anymore, personally I never really found it to be enjoyable since the early to mid nineties, guess I'm in the minority there.

Sketch comedy is always pushing it. Let's face it, there is always someone who is going to take offense to whats said or done. They'll stir up some controversy--make some headlines and before we know it, it'll be yesterdays news.
ReplyDeletesnl is like any good comedy show, they need to hit on politcal topics just to lighten the mood of the country about serious issues
ReplyDeleteI think that John Stewart doesn't get any credit because he does it day in and day out on the Daily Show. The show is obviously all about politics so it isn't shocking when they reflect on the political issues of the day, duh. haha. I don't know I really don't like politics hence I REALLY don't like the Daily Show or the Colbert Report. They might be funny but to me they are just snoozy.
ReplyDeleteThey have a little more influence then you would think. Remember lasy year with the Tina Fey/Sarah Palin skits, they eventually resulted in Sarah Palin on SNL. Definetly omne of the best things I've seen in a long time.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna have to agree with Joe, they have quite a voice in the big scheme of things. In fact SNL is in the news pretty often if you look into it, they are always pushing the envelope and trying to create some controversy with their sketches. SNL was definitely better in the mid 90's though.
